This Can't Go On

River Oaks Hannah has grown to be about the same size and shape as a hippopotamus.
I thought for sure she would be the first ewe to lamb.
All the other girls have given birth to their lambs, though.  And Hannah remains laboriously unconcerned with the fact that she can hardly waddle.
I think today might be the day, though.
She was a bit separate from the group yesterday.  And when Leil and her lamb escaped the jug for a few minutes last evening, Hannah seemed determined to kill Leil and steal her baby.  That kind of vicious behavior usually means birth is less than 24 hours away.
I'm hoping she lambs today, if only for the fact that it hurts to look at her!

I had a ewe try to steal lambs and she didn't lamb until two weeks later! She had an enormous belly an had good sized triplets.

Sabrina, I hope Hannah has lambed by now, but check out my blog post from April 22nd, 2010 for photos and the story of Hannah's lambing last year. I'm surprised she tried to steal a lamb, usually the only ones I've had who have done that are the open ones. Good luck!
I can't wait to see photos of all your lambs!

I had more issues with pregnant ewes stealing lambs this year than in all my previous years put together. Also, triplets were new to us this year and then I had 2 sets. It's been a bizarre year.........for a lot of us. Here's to hoping she gives you 3 silky soft babies.
Keep us posted.

Just saying Nirvana took FIVE weeks after I thought she'd lamb...and like you, I thought she would be one of the first. She had 15 pounds of babies, 10# ram and 5# ewe. go figure. I was hoping for triplets myself :) good luck!

Thank you to everyone for the helpful perspectives. Now that I've gone back to see Becky's photos of Hannah on her lambing day last spring, I think I can stop worrying. Her bag is nowhere near that big yet. She just must be one of those ewes that gets enormous early in the game.

Patience! I'm not so good at that.
